What an invoice must show
- A unique invoice number that follows on from the last one.
- Your business name and address, and your customer’s name and address.
- A clear description of what you’re charging for, the date of the goods or service, and the invoice date.
- The amount being charged, any VAT, and the total owed.
- If you’re a limited company, the company’s full registered name. VAT-registered businesses must also show their VAT number and more detail on a VAT invoice.
