Self-employed mileage calculator
Enter your business miles for the tax year and see your flat-rate mileage claim, split between the higher and lower rate. Have more than one car or van? Enter each one: the 10,000 miles at the higher rate are shared between them. Nothing you type leaves your device.
How the calculator works
- Cars and vans: 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in 2026/27 (45p in 2025/26), then 25p.
- The 10,000 miles are for all your cars and vans together, so the calculator adds them up before splitting the rate.
- Motorcycles: 24p a mile, and their miles don’t count towards the 10,000.
- Parking and tolls on business trips are added on top.
It can’t tell how the claim splits between your vehicles, because that depends on the order of your trips during the year. It also doesn’t check whether you’re allowed to use the flat rate for a vehicle: you can’t if you’ve claimed capital allowances on it, and once you use it for a vehicle you must stay on it. Read our guide to the self-employed mileage allowance for the rules, or compare the mileage rate with actual costs.
Log each trip as you go and it works out the split on the right trip, the claim for each vehicle, monthly and MTD quarterly totals, and a one-page summary for your accountant.
